Kecskeméti Fotókör

Club guide

Predecessor of Photo Club of Kecskemét was founded in 1939 and after the tempest of history it was reorganized in 1959. The „Exhibition of European Photo Saloons” was arranged by the Club in the following year. Many works were displayed on several of exhibitions since the establishment of the Club and gained full marks from the jury. In 1988 the Club obtained the title „Outstanding Association” under leadership of János Vincze. In the meantime the status of amateurish photography in Hungary radically changed. As the photography became business, the clubs supported by local cultural departments lost their members, though this clubs were provided with technical background stopping an old gap.

The Photo Club transformed after the death of János Vincze in 1999. The older members fell away, meanwhile youngers joined. Nowadays the photographical creative group, named Kecskeméti Fotókör (Photo Club of Kecskemét) has 16 members, mainly young ones. This younger group looking for new aims found historical methods. In every year since summer of 2000 a week long Contact Photo Camp has been organized in Bugac, which is open since 2003.

The aim of this creative working camp is to revive archaic technics blown over during the daily routine and to preserve them for present and posterity. It is important to keep alive the elementary early methods of photography besides the spreading digital technic. (Camera obscura, salted paper, cyanotype, oil print, argentotype, carbon print, etc.)

Our further purpose is to introduce the life on boondocks, on farms in Bugac, which suits well to archaic methods and to the scenery.

A great help for our work is a book „How not to make a score with our old photos”, a really unique writing published by the Hungarian Museum of Photography.

The participants of the camp are provided with technical background, which serves them to prepare their works (from taking photos till installation).
